Port NOLA Louisiana Achieves Record Cruise Passenger Movements in 2024

The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) achieved a remarkable milestone in 2024 by recording 1.2 million cruise passenger movements, breaking its previous record from 2023. This growth has been attributed to long-term commitments from major cruise operators. Carnival Cruise Line (CCL) sealed a 5-year deal to station two ships, the Carnival Valor and Carnival Liberty, for year-round operations in New Orleans. Similarly, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) introduced the Norwegian Getaway in October under a comparable 5-year arrangement, while Royal Caribbean International (RCI) resumed operations in November with the Brilliance of the Seas.

Port NOLA continues to be an essential hub for river cruises, with six river vessels, including the Viking Mississippi, which was constructed locally. Beth Branch, the president and CEO of Port NOLA, expressed gratitude towards the local cruise and hospitality partners, such as New Orleans & Company, for their role in driving successful passenger volumes. She believes these partnerships have contributed to ongoing growth in both ocean and river cruise sectors and is optimistic about future success in 2025.

Ranked as the sixth-largest cruise port in the United States, Port NOLA operates two terminals, Erato Street and Julia Street, conveniently located near the historic French Quarter.
