MSC World America Successfully Concludes Final Sea Trials Before Delivery
MSC Cruises’ latest ship, MSC World America, has successfully completed its final sea trials in the Bay of Biscay. These trials tested various systems including engine performance, maneuverability, fuel consumption, as well as safety protocols, speed, and stopping distances.
Following the completion of these trials, the ship is set to undergo its final outfitting at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, in preparation for its delivery on March 27th. As the 23rd vessel in the MSC fleet, MSC World America is a development of the World Class platform and has been designed with the U.S. market in mind, blending European flair with American comfort.
The ship will feature seven unique onboard districts, each with diverse dining, entertainment, and leisure options tailored to different traveler preferences. Its official naming ceremony is planned for April 9th at the MSC Miami Cruise Terminal, the largest cruise terminal in the world. After the ceremony, the ship will commence its maiden voyage, which includes a stop at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve in The Bahamas before beginning regular itineraries in the Caribbean.
MSC World America measures 1,093 feet in length and 154 feet in width, with a gross tonnage of 216,638. The vessel can accommodate 6,762 passengers and has space for 2,138 crew members across 2,614 cabins, along with 413,334 square feet of public space. Amenities include 18 bars and lounges, 19 dining venues, and unique culinary experiences featuring the first Eataly restaurant at sea.
In terms of entertainment, MSC World America will introduce two lounge concepts, including the All-Stars Sports Bar for an authentic game-day experience and The Loft, a multi-purpose venue for activities like comedy and karaoke.
On April 12th, the ship will begin alternating 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami. As part of its commitment to sustainability, MSC World America will be LNG-powered, allowing for the use of bio and synthetic LNG fuels. It also features shore power capabilities, which help reduce emissions while at port, alongside advanced wastewater treatment systems and comprehensive recycling protocols.
MSC Cruises has plans for two more World Class vessels, MSC World Asia, expected in 2026, and another unnamed ship launching in 2027.
