Royal Caribbean’s Quantum OTS Successfully Completes Two Medevacs in New Caledonia

Three Australian passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas were urgently evacuated during an 8-day South Pacific cruise due to medical emergencies.

The evacuations, which took place on February 19, 2025, were facilitated by the Armed Forces of New Caledonia using a maritime gendarmerie patrol boat. The first incident occurred on the evening of February 18 as the ship neared Noumea, resulting in the first passenger being transferred to shore by 8:00 a.m. the next morning.

Shortly after the ship was set to leave New Caledonia’s lagoon, a second emergency arose when the maritime pilot alerted the Operational Surveillance and Rescue Centre (COSS) that two additional passengers needed immediate medical assistance. Following a remote consultation, the patrol boat was called back, completing the second evacuation by 10:30 a.m.

All three individuals received urgent medical attention at Medipole, while Quantum of the Seas resumed her scheduled itinerary, continuing an 8-day round-trip cruise from Brisbane, Australia.
