The Unicaja Foundation has recently invested in Alma Cruceros, acquiring a 35% stake and becoming a strategic partner in the company. This investment is aimed at bolstering Alma Cruceros’ financial stability and ensuring access to expertise in future project financing.

Elisardo Sánchez, president of Alma, emphasized that the shared values between both institutions focus on creating social benefits at their various destinations while promoting cultural initiatives and environmental commitments. Sergio Corral, general director of the Unicaja Foundation, highlighted the foundation’s interest in fostering socio-economic development in the region, particularly through high-growth opportunities within the tourism sector.

The formal agreement between Corral and Sánchez marks a significant step for Alma, which is set to commence operations in April with an inaugural cruise from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to Malaga. The cruise line aims to cater to the Spanish market with a luxury offering aboard the Ocean Victory, which will be operational during the summer seasons under a charter agreement with SunStone Ships.

This partnership not only aims to accelerate Alma’s growth and expand into new markets but also enhances its innovative capabilities. The foundation’s investment is expected to pave the way for the addition of a second ship to Alma’s fleet, projected to be operational by 2028.
