USCG Rescues 72-Year-Old Man from Cruise Ship South of Oahu in Emergency Medevac
The U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescued a 72-year-old man who suffered multiple strokes while aboard the Holland America Line cruise ship, Koningsdam, located approximately 57 miles south of Oahu.
On Wednesday, February 27, at 2:48 p.m., the Coast Guard received an alert from the cruise ship’s crew regarding the medical emergency. A flight surgeon advised that a medevac was necessary within the following 20 hours.
In response, the Coast Guard dispatched an HC-130 Hercules airplane and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point. They arrived at the cruise ship on Thursday morning, around 9 a.m., and conducted the evacuation, hoisting the passenger to safety.
The man was subsequently transported to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where he was reported to be in stable condition following the incident.
