HX Expeditions Launches €7M Refurbishment Project for MS Fram and MS Spitsbergen
HX Expeditions has announced the beginning of a significant EUR 7 million refurbishment for its expedition vessels, MS Fram and MS Spitsbergen.
The refurbishment of the 250-passenger MS Fram, which was completely upgraded in 2022, will add a new Science Center aimed at enhancing guest interaction. The upgrade includes renovations to 19 Arctic Superior cabins, including updated bathrooms. Additionally, 14 Expedition Suites and 6 Expedition Grand Suites will be refurbished with twin-bed configurations. The Aune Restaurant and galley will also be enhanced, improving the dining experience and operational efficiency. All Polar Cabins will receive new bathrooms, with 36 crew cabins undergoing full bathroom refurbishments, along with updated carpets and sofas. This work will occur in April 2025 at a dry dock in Panama, with the vessel expected to resume service on May 26th, 2025.
Similarly, the 220-passenger MS Spitsbergen will also see extensive upgrades. It will feature a new Science Center, updates to all Polar Cabins, and enhancements to the Explorer Bar. A new dining venue, Brygge Bistro, will serve snacks throughout the day, and accessibility will be improved with refurbished ADA bathrooms and new interpreter setups for multilingual educational talks. Crew areas and dining facilities will expand as well. This refurbishment is scheduled for February and March 2025 at the Astilleros de Santander S.A.U. dry dock in Spain, with the ship returning to service on April 2nd, 2025.
