Mitsui Ocean Cruises Welcomes Seabourn Sojourn to Its Expanding Fleet

Mitsui Ocean Cruises is enhancing its position in the luxury cruise sector by acquiring the Seabourn Sojourn from Carnival Corporation. This purchase follows their previous acquisition of Seabourn Odyssey, which has been rebranded as Mitsui Ocean Fuji in 2023. The Seabourn Sojourn will undergo significant refurbishment before being tailored for the Japanese market.

Although the ship has been officially handed over to Mitsui Ocean Cruises as of February 28, 2025, it will still operate under the Seabourn brand for a limited time due to a charter agreement that includes scheduled itineraries, such as a world cruise expected to finish in May 2026. This arrangement allows Seabourn to maintain operational continuity while giving Mitsui the opportunity to prepare for its upcoming transition.

After fulfilling its charter commitments, Seabourn Sojourn will undergo extensive renovations before resuming service as a Mitsui Ocean Cruises vessel, focusing on short- to mid-length luxury cruise offerings exclusively for the Japanese clientele. Mitsui Ocean Cruises builds upon the successful integration of Mitsui Ocean Fuji, increasing its operational expertise with this latest addition.

Other companies are also making strides to improve premium cruise offerings in Japan. NYK Line plans to launch Asuka III in July 2025, while Ryobi Holdings aims to introduce a luxury yacht-style cruise vessel in 2027.
