Exploring the Galapagos: Lindblad’s National Geographic Gemini Sets Sail

Lindblad Expeditions has officially launched the National Geographic Gemini in the Galapagos Islands. This vessel, formerly known as the Xpedition and previously operated by Celebrity Cruises, was acquired late in 2024 and has recently undergone refurbishment in Panama.

The National Geographic Gemini will offer year-round expeditions in the Ecuadorian archipelago, featuring a comprehensive ten-night itinerary. This journey includes overnight stays in mainland Ecuador and visits to notable islands within the Galapagos National Park, including Española, Floreana, Santa Cruz, and Bartolomé.

Guests will have the chance to experience the unique wildlife within the Galapagos Marine Reserve, using the ship’s various exploration tools. The Gemini will provide several activities, such as paddleboarding, zodiac cruises, and glass-bottom boat tours. Additionally, travelers can enhance their experience with an optional six-day land extension to Machu Picchu in Peru.

With the addition of the Gemini, Lindblad now operates four ships in the Galapagos, sailing alongside the National Geographic Endeavour II, Islander II, and Delfina. This expansion aligns with their strategy to increase market presence in the region, expected to bring an additional 3,000 first-time travelers annually. The Galapagos, characterized by a limited number of operational licenses, represents a closed market, indicating that fleet expansion does not increase competition but rather enhances the offerings available to travelers.
