Atlantic Canada Gears Up for an Unprecedented 2025 Cruise Season

Atlantic Canada is gearing up for its longest and most ambitious cruise season yet in 2025, running from early March to late November. The region is expecting to host approximately 736,500 cruise passengers across its various ports.

The season commenced on March 10th with the arrival of Ponant’s ship, Le Commandant Charcot, which marked her inaugural winter voyage at the Port of Corner Brook in Newfoundland and Labrador. This port anticipates a total of 23 ship visits, bringing in over 31,000 cruise visitors.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, will kick off its cruise season on April 4th with the Viking Polaris, concluding in late November with AIDA’s AIDAdiva. Halifax is projected to experience 188 ship calls, accommodating around 328,000 passengers.

In New Brunswick, the Port of Saint John is preparing for 78 cruise calls, expected to welcome about 180,000 guests. Notably, by mid-September, the port is set to exceed a cumulative total of 3.5 million cruise passengers since it opened operations in 1989.

Charlottetown in Prince Edward Island is on track for 79 cruise calls, including seven inaugural visits, welcoming approximately 129,500 passengers throughout the season. Meanwhile, the Port of Sydney in Nova Scotia is expecting around 230,000 passengers through 110 cruise calls, inviting visitors to explore the rich history and stunning landscapes of Cape Breton Island.

The 2025 cruise season will also see the arrival of new cruise lines and vessels in the region. Virgin Voyages will debut with the Brilliant Lady, which will call at both Saint John and Halifax. Other ships making their inaugural visits include Oceania Allura, Celebrity Silhouette, the aforementioned Le Commandant Charcot, Majestic Princess, Seven Seas Splendor, and Silver Dawn.

To enhance regional cruise tourism, Halifax will host the Cruise Canada New England Symposium from June 9th to 11th, attracting over 150 industry professionals.

This remarkable growth in the cruise sector highlights Atlantic Canada’s allure as a sought-after cruise destination, promising diverse experiences that continue to captivate travelers from around the globe.
