HAL-Holland America Cancels Two Transatlantic Cruises on MS Nieuw Statendam: What You Need to Know

HAL-Holland America Line has announced the cancellation of two transatlantic voyages aboard the ms Nieuw Statendam, originally set for October 2026. The impacted sailings are a 29-day cruise departing from Rotterdam on October 17 and a 15-day voyage initiating on October 31. The cruise line has not provided specific reasons for these cancellations.

These itineraries were supposed to visit several ports, including Zeebrugge in Belgium, Portsmouth and Falmouth in England, Cherbourg in France, and Brest in France. Notably, the 29-day cruise planned additional stops in Norway, visiting destinations such as Ålesund, Trondheim, Tromsø, Gravdal, Alta, Andalsnes, and Bergen, as well as a stop in Lerwick in the Shetland Isles.

Despite the two cancellations, other sailings on the ms Nieuw Statendam remain unaffected. For instance, the 14-night "Arctic Journey Northern Lights With History Channel," which also departs on October 17 from Rotterdam, is still scheduled to proceed.

Passengers affected by the cancellations have reported receiving email notifications and have raised concerns regarding compensation. The proposed credit of $50 per person for rebooking has left some guests dissatisfied. Holland America Line has yet to issue an official statement explaining the reasons for the cancellations or addressing the grievances of the passengers.
