Costa Smeralda Sets Sail for Western Mediterranean from Genoa: A New Deployment Begins
Costa Smeralda has officially begun its deployment in the Western Mediterranean from its new homeport in Genoa starting April 2025. This flagship of Costa Cruises, sistership to Costa Toscana, will embark on weekly roundtrip journeys every Friday until November 2025.
The ship’s transition to the Mediterranean follows an extensive winter season in the Arabian Gulf, where it made regular stops in key cities including Dubai, Muscat, Doha, and Abu Dhabi. To return to Europe, Costa Smeralda took a remarkable 37-day repositioning voyage around Africa, visiting various ports such as Port Louis, Cape Town, and Barcelona, effectively circumnavigating the continent.
From April 11, 2025, Costa Smeralda will follow a standardized 8-day itinerary, calling on several popular destinations such as Marseille, Barcelona, Cagliari, Naples, and Civitavecchia (Rome) before heading back to Genoa. This voyage offers a great opportunity for travelers to explore notable locations across Italy, France, and Spain.
Each journey combines onboard activities with culturally enriching shore excursions. Guests can enjoy unique experiences at sea, like guided astronomical observations and culinary delights while taking in views of stunning coastlines. There are also curated shore excursions, including visits to Marseille’s Notre-Dame de la Garde, explorations of Barcelona’s iconic architectural sites, and guided tours of Naples’ historic areas and Pompeii.
