Huna Totem Partners: Pioneering Sustainable Water Solutions Through Strategic Deal

Huna Totem Corporation (HTC) has formed a partnership with Alaska Native-owned Kuuk Water to provide sustainably sourced Alaska glacial water at its cruise ports. This initiative aligns with World Environment Day and takes place at the company’s destinations.

The partnership will launch at Icy Strait Point with unique, resealable aluminum-canned bottles adorned with Tlingit designs, exclusive to HTC. The initial batch, set for delivery in mid-June, aims to sell approximately 300,000 bottles during the cruise season and is projected to eliminate around 15,000 pounds of plastic waste.

Kuuk Water’s bottles are designed for reuse, allowing guests to refill them, which HTC emphasizes as a convenient option for travelers. Other port destinations such as Klawock Island and Chugach Glacier Gateway are also set to offer Kuuk Water in the near future.

HTC’s President and CEO, Russell Dick, stated that their business activities deeply respect the environment and that this partnership not only supports a rising Alaska Native-owned business but also significantly reduces plastic waste. Kuuk Water focuses on providing ethical and environmentally responsible water options while positively impacting Indigenous communities. The company reinvests its profits to fund its nonprofit arm, Kuugaq, which aims to enhance water accessibility and youth wellness in Alaska and beyond.

Kuuk Water’s President, Joe Warren, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting a commitment to making a significant impact in the communities they serve by honoring traditions and building a sustainable future.
