Setting Sail: The Maiden Voyage of ACL’s American Patriot
American Cruise Lines (ACL) is embarking on a new era for USA-flagged coastal cruising with the launch of their newest vessel, the American Patriot. This ship is set to begin its inaugural journey from Boston on June 21st, marking a significant addition to the American cruising scene.
The American Patriot measures 243 by 56 feet and was built at Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland, at a cost of approximately $40 million. The vessel has a displacement of 3,000 gross tons and can accommodate 130 passengers in 56 cabins. With a crew of around 50, it boasts a cruising speed of 18 knots.
On its maiden voyage, the American Patriot will embark on a 15-day “Grand New England” itinerary, visiting iconic ports such as Boston, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, Gloucester, Provincetown, Plymouth, and several Maine destinations including Boothbay Harbour, Bar Harbour, and Portland.
This ship is the flagship of ACL’s new Patriot-class fleet, which will eventually include three more sister ships: the American Pioneer, American Maverick, and American Ranger, all scheduled for delivery over the next 16 months. The 2025 cruise season will feature an expanded itinerary ranging from 8 to 16 days, focusing on the coastal regions of New England.
The Patriot-class vessels are designed for intimate cruising and include features such as private-balcony staterooms, various lounges—including a panoramic Sky Lounge—and a fitness center. This inaugural voyage sets the stage for a summer season featuring five ships across nine different itineraries. After the summer season, the American Patriot is expected to relocate to the Chesapeake Bay in late October and further explore the Gulf Coast and Florida Keys in November.
