Unexpected Power Outage Disrupts Celebrity Cruises Itinerary, Extends Port Visit

While on a 7-night cruise in Greece, the Celebrity Infinity faced a significant challenge. On July 7, 2025, while docked in Kusadasi, Turkey, the ship experienced a small electrical fire, resulting in a power outage. The exact location and timing of the fire remain unclear, but incidents like these are frequently linked to engine rooms, electrical panels, or cabling.

A passenger onboard described the situation, noting that while most guests were off the ship exploring, the blackout occurred. This left the ship without power for several hours, affecting communication, air conditioning, and dining services. "There was a total blackout for a few hours," reported one guest. With temperatures soaring to 91 degrees Fahrenheit that day, the lack of air conditioning became a major concern.

Despite the inconvenience, many passengers expressed gratitude for the crew’s efforts during the ordeal. The crew handled passenger concerns and managed the situation well under tough conditions. Power was ultimately restored, and the crew members promptly commenced repairs.

Due to the extended port stay, the ship’s itinerary has been affected. The originally scheduled stops in Mykonos and Kavala are no longer feasible. However, efforts are underway to adjust the itinerary by replacing a scheduled sea day with a visit to Mykonos later in the cruise. The final port call in Thessaloniki is expected to proceed as planned, and guests are looking forward to disembarking in Athens on July 12.

As of now, it’s unclear if all systems are functioning optimally after the repairs. Royal Caribbean Group, which oversees Celebrity Cruises, confirmed that they are addressing the technical issue and are in communication with guests regarding updates.

Power outages like this are uncommon, but with the crew’s skill and training, resolutions typically come swiftly. Past incidents, such as a recent overnight outage on Harmony of the Seas, have shown that most situations can be managed without significant disruption to the travel schedule.
