Organizers of the renowned heavy metal cruise festival, 70000 Tons of Metal, have announced a significant change for their 2026 voyage. Initially set to depart from Miami and head to Labadee, Haiti, the event will now reroute to Nassau, Bahamas. The cruise is scheduled for January 29 to February 2, 2026, aboard Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas.

This decision comes in response to the ongoing instability in Haiti. Festival organizer Andy Piller cited the safety and comfort of the nearly 3,000 attendees, affectionately dubbed “Survivors,” as the top priority. Nassau has been selected as an excellent alternative due to its secure docking facilities and hospitable atmosphere, which will enhance the festival’s celebrated four-day program.

While the port has changed, the festival will continue its tradition of delivering four days of heavy metal music featuring 60 bands across four stages, including the popular open-air pool deck stage. Attendees will once again engage in artist interactions, the All-Star Jam, and other fan activities. The first batch of 27 bands has already been confirmed, featuring renowned names like Amorphis, Dark Tranquillity, Eluveitie, Insomnium, and Kamelot.

This event marks the festival’s return to Nassau after several years of alternate routing. Since its inception in 2011, it has frequently navigated Caribbean waters. Given the concerns surrounding their original destination, this rerouting ensures the essence of the festival remains intact. Nassau’s cultural history with music, including Iron Maiden’s recording at Compass Point Studios, offers an ideal setting for this vibrant gathering of heavy metal enthusiasts.
