Exploring New Horizons: Ponant’s Le Jacques Cartier Sets Sail for French Polynesia Adventures

Ponant Explorations Group is set to expand its winter offerings with new voyages aboard the Le Jacques Cartier in French Polynesia for the 2026-2027 season. This addition will complement the long-standing presence of the Paul Gauguin in the region.

The Explorer-class ship will embark on two new 14-night itineraries, both departing round-trip from Papeete, scheduled from October 2026 to February 2027. These journeys promise to take guests to less-traveled destinations, including the remote Gambier and Austral Islands, which are rarely seen by cruise ships.

In addition to the familiar Society Islands, Tuamotus, and Marquesas, these itineraries will provide a more comprehensive exploration of French Polynesia, featuring areas that the Gauguin does not visit, accessible only by expedition-class vessels.

Samuel Chamberlain, CEO of the Americas for Ponant Explorations Group, described the deployment of Le Jacques Cartier as offering "a new perspective—more remote and more expeditionary." He emphasized that this expansion strengthens the brand’s leadership in the region, promoting its image of authenticity, elegance, and adventure.

The first itinerary, "Secret Polynesia: Society to Austral Islands," will launch on October 18 and December 13, 2026, traversing the Tuamotus, Gambier, and Austral Islands. The second journey, "From French Polynesia to Pitcairn Island," is set for November 15, 2026, covering the Tuamotus and Gambier before heading to the famous Pitcairn.

These inaugural voyages mark a significant enhancement to Ponant’s offerings in Polynesia, inviting travelers to explore the hidden wonders of this beautiful archipelago alongside the Paul Gauguin from October through early 2027.
