Federal Operation Leads to Crew Removal from Victory Cruise Lines in the Great Lakes
During routine operations at the Port of Detroit, crew members from Victory Cruise Lines’ ships, Victory I and Victory II, were taken off the vessels by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on July 9 and 11. This removal of thirteen crew members, who had previously been cleared to work in the U.S. and hired through third-party agencies, is part of an ongoing federal investigation in the Great Lakes area. As this investigation is still active, the CBP has not released further details.
Victory Cruise Lines has resumed its operations under new ownership this spring following the closure of American Queen Voyages. The company is fully cooperating with the federal authorities in this matter. John Waggoner, the founder and chairman of Victory Cruise Lines, emphasized the importance of crew welfare and guest experience during this situation, with executive management currently on board to address the complications. It has also been reported that similar crew removals have occurred with other overnight cruise operators in the region.
Despite these events, both the Victory I and Victory II continue to operate scheduled itineraries in the Great Lakes and New England-Canada regions throughout the fall.
