National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions Expands Galápagos Fleet with Delfina and Gemini
In the serene waters of Academy Bay on Santa Cruz Island in the Galápagos archipelago, National Geographic–Lindblad Expeditions celebrated a momentous occasion as it officially named its newest expedition ships, the National Geographic Delfina and the National Geographic Gemini, during a ceremony held on July 10th.
This special event was marked by the participation of shipboard team members and their families, alongside local dignitaries and community residents, reflecting Lindblad’s strong commitment to the region and its conservation efforts. The ceremony included the traditional bottle-breaking at sea, symbolizing unity and support for the Galápagos’ environment and communities.
Natalya Leahy, CEO of Lindblad Expeditions Holdings, articulated that the ceremony showcased the company’s long-lasting dedication to the Galápagos, highlighting nearly 60 years of collaboration with local communities, backing over a hundred environmental initiatives, and stewardship of the national park.
The National Geographic Delfina, a luxurious 98-foot catamaran, is designed for intimate voyages and can host 16 guests in 8 staterooms, several featuring private balconies. It includes an open-air Observation Deck, alfresco dining options, and various exploration tools like Zodiacs and snorkeling gear.
The National Geographic Gemini, with a capacity of 48 passengers, offers 28 outside cabins and suites, some with private balconies. Guests can access amenities such as a spa, fitness center, whirlpool hot tub, and an outdoor café, along with a comprehensive array of exploration equipment.
Both ships joined Lindblad’s fleet earlier this year, which consists of five vessels operating in the Galápagos. Run by experienced Ecuadorian and Galapagueño crews, these ships embody the adventurous spirit of expedition cruising and uphold the company’s tradition of eco-conscious travel.
This naming ceremony not only reinforces Lindblad’s pioneering role in modern expedition travel within this unique ecosystem but also deepens its commitment to the Galápagos, its inhabitants, and ongoing conservation efforts.
