Virgin Voyages Fleet Celebrates Successful Portsmouth Reunion Ahead of New Sailing Season

Portsmouth International Port is set to welcome the complete fleet of Virgin Voyages this summer, with the return of the Scarlet Lady on July 27th and the Brilliant Lady following on August 22nd. This event marks a significant milestone, making Portsmouth the first port worldwide to host every ship from the adult-only cruise line, which is expected to boost the local economy.

Each visit from Virgin Voyages contributes approximately GBP 1.5 million in combined direct port fees, local supply-chain activities, and expenditures from passengers and crew. The port, owned by the local council, anticipates profits of around GBP 10.3 million this year, which will support essential municipal services and local projects.

The partnership between Virgin Voyages and Portsmouth began in 2021 with the Scarlet Lady’s inaugural visit, and since then, over 72,000 sailors have started or ended their journeys there, contributing to record cruise growth at the port. The addition of the Resilient Lady for its inaugural UK season and multiple return visits has further solidified Portsmouth’s reputation as a key home port for cruisers.

Councillor Steve Pitt, leader of Portsmouth City Council, spoke about the positive impact of this relationship on local businesses and the importance of national visibility for the area. He expressed pride in Portsmouth being chosen as a long-term base for Virgin Voyages.

Port Director Mike Sellers noted that this year is expected to be the busiest yet, with over 90 ship calls anticipated, introducing new customers to the city.

During this cruising season, journeys will range from 6 to 13 nights, visiting diverse destinations including Reykjavik and Morocco, alongside themed voyages featuring celebrations and comedy events.
