Savor the Flavor: Durian Cruises Set Sail Aboard Genting Dream

Dream Cruises has officially announced the revival of its well-liked “Durian Party” on the Genting Dream, which is set to take place over four specially designated two-night sailings between Singapore and Melaka, Malaysia. These cruises are scheduled for departure on the 24th and 31st of August, as well as the 7th and 14th of September 2025, providing travelers with a unique mix of exploration and tropical enjoyment.

During the voyage, passengers will have the chance to step ashore in Melaka for a specially curated durian experience titled the “Eat-All-You-Can Premium Durian Buffet.” This buffet guarantees an array of Malaysia’s finest durian varieties, including Musang King, Black Thorn, Tan Sri XO, and Red Prawn, along with a selection of tropical fruits for those preferring lighter options. The tasting event is designed to last around 90 minutes, followed by a leisurely stroll through Jonker Street, Melaka’s famous cultural and culinary hub. The cost for this experience is SG$45 per person, and reservations can be made in advance through cruise packages or onboard at the Deck 6 Box Office, though availability may be limited.

Michael Goh, President of StarDream Cruises, stated that the return of the Durian Party marks a renewed celebration of Southeast Asia’s beloved fruit, enhanced with broader offerings and improved guest experiences. He emphasized that the cruises aim to fuse Malaysia’s rich culinary traditions with a variety of activities for all ages.

To enrich the durian experience further, the cruise will host Edison Ang, a noted Malaysian durian expert and digital content creator. Edison is scheduled to make guest appearances at the Melaka buffet on select dates, sharing his expertise and insights about durian selection, cultivation, and flavor profiles. His goal is to enhance guests’ understanding of Malaysia’s durian culture in both an informative and entertaining manner.

The festivities surrounding durian won’t stop at the port call in Melaka. Guests can engage in onboard activities including durian-themed quizzes and interactive games, as well as workshops that feature creative, durian-inspired arts and crafts suitable for passengers of all ages.

In addition to the fruit-focused activities, the Genting Dream boasts a full range of amenities. Guests can indulge in a variety of international and Asian dining options that cater to Halal, vegetarian, and Jain preferences. The cruise also offers evening entertainment with theatrical productions at the Zodiac Theatre and outdoor movie screenings under the stars. For recreation, facilities include waterslides, rope courses, jacuzzis, rock climbing walls, and spa services, ensuring an enriching experience for all onboard.
