Virgin Voyages Fleet Celebrates Successful Portsmouth Reunion Ahead of Exciting Sailing Season

Portsmouth International Port is set to host the entire fleet of Virgin Voyages this summer, marking a significant milestone as it becomes the first port globally to welcome all of the cruise line’s ships. The Scarlet Lady will make its return on July 27, followed by the Brilliant Lady on August 22.

Each arrival at Portsmouth provides a considerable economic boost, contributing up to £1.5 million in direct fees and local spending by passengers and crew. The port is expected to generate £10.3 million in profit this year, which will go towards essential municipal services and investments.

This partnership began in 2021 with the inaugural arrival of the Scarlet Lady in Portsmouth. Since then, over 72,000 passengers have started or finished their cruises there, driving record growth for the port. Furthermore, the introduction of the Resilient Lady has solidified Portsmouth’s standing as a leading home port.

Portsmouth City Council’s leader, Councillor Steve Pitt, emphasized the advantages of this collaboration, which has enhanced trade opportunities and increased the city’s visibility on a national scale. He expressed pride in Portsmouth being chosen as a long-term base for Virgin Voyages.

Port Director Mike Sellers noted the strong relationship with Virgin Voyages and anticipates a record season, with over 90 ship calls expected. This expansion is set to attract a new customer demographic to Portsmouth.

Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu highlighted Portsmouth’s essential role in the brand’s growth, viewing the arrivals of the Scarlet Lady and Brilliant Lady as pivotal moments for the company.

This summer, cruises will range from 6 to 13 nights, offering diverse destinations including Reykjavík and Morocco, along with themed celebrations and comedy voyages.
