Storm Floris Causes Service Disruptions on Irish Sea Ferry Routes

Adverse weather caused by Storm Floris severely disrupted ferry operations in the Irish Sea, especially impacting routes between the Isle of Man and north-west England. The gale-force winds led to the cancellation of both the morning and afternoon fast-ferry crossings of the vessel Manannan between Douglas and Liverpool.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s primary vessel, Manxman, managed to depart Douglas for Heysham as scheduled at 08:30 BST. However, its return crossing, originally set for 14:15, may face delays depending on sea conditions. The Ronaldsway Met Office had previously issued a yellow wind warning for gusts up to 50 mph, but it has since been lifted, indicating that the worst conditions have passed.

Due to the ongoing unpredictable weather, operational adjustments are still being made. The Steam Packet Company expects the 16:00 sailing of Manannan to go ahead, albeit with an extended travel time—estimated to be around 30 minutes longer than usual.

In light of the situation, the company issued a travel advisory, cautioning that further disruptions or cancellations could occur and offering passengers with bookings for Monday the chance to change their travel plans at no extra cost.
