Royal Caribbean Suspends Labadee Port Calls Through October Over Security Concerns

Royal Caribbean International (RCI) has suspended all calls to its private beach destination, Labadee in Haiti, through the end of October 2025. This decision comes amid rising civil unrest and organized violence in Haiti, prompting a Level 4 "Do Not Travel" advisory from the U.S. Department of State. The advisory highlights the prevalence of crimes involving firearms, including kidnapping and armed robbery, as well as a state of emergency declared due to gang activities and a breakdown of public order. The U.S. Coast Guard has also advised caution for maritime operators at Haitian ports under these unstable conditions.

As a result of the cancellation, over 20 Caribbean cruises scheduled on five Royal Caribbean ships—Adventure of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas, Icon of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, and Radiance of the Seas—will have to adjust their itineraries to exclude Labadee. Some voyages will add extra sea days or replace Labadee with alternative stops such as Nassau and Costa Maya, ensuring that the duration and quality of the cruise experience remain intact.

Royal Caribbean is closely monitoring the situation in Port-au-Prince and has communicated directly with affected passengers about the adjustments. The company’s decision is framed as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of everyone on board while maintaining their itinerary amid ongoing geopolitical risks.

Labadee had already seen its status changed earlier in 2024 due to similar concerns before being briefly reinstated later. This latest decision reflects a more sustained response to the volatility in the region and the company’s commitment to responsive scheduling in light of rapidly changing circumstances.

The ongoing absence of Labadee from itineraries is impacting various Caribbean cruise operations, but Royal Caribbean continues to assure a safe and high-quality experience through other stable ports in its network. The company is focused on balancing the expectations of guests with the imperative need for navigational and security precautions, emphasizing transparency and alternative itineraries in its operations.
