Princess Cruises Announces Deployment of Diamond and Sapphire Ships to Japan in 2027
Princess Cruises has announced an ambitious schedule for 2027, which marks its most extensive program in Japan to date. The deployment will feature two Japanese-built sister ships, the Diamond Princess and Sapphire Princess, stationed in the Tokyo region from March to December 2027. Sailings are set to go on sale starting August 20, 2025.
These vessels, each capable of carrying 2,700 passengers, will operate a remarkable total of 78 departures across 50 unique itineraries ranging from 7 to 28 days. The cruises will visit 45 ports across six countries, blending coastal and island destinations with cultural highlights and festival events. Selected itineraries will trail the cherry blossom bloom from south to north, coinciding with major summer festivities such as the Aomori Nebuta, Tokushima Awa Odori, and Kochi Yosakoi, often allowing for late-night stays in port.
Extended voyages will include notable cities like Osaka, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki, while some itineraries will reach out to Okinawa and Taiwan, including stops in Taipei and Hualien. The "Japan Explorer" segment will offer access to key locations such as Shimizu for views of Mount Fuji, Kobe for Kyoto, and Kagoshima.
Passengers can look forward to longer stays at 12 designated "More Ashore" ports, which include Osaka, Hiroshima, Hakodate, Sakata, and Halong Bay. With a chance to explore 21 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, travelers will enjoy scenic passages through the Kanmon Straits and the Inland Sea, along with breathtaking views of the iconic Mount Fuji and Sakurajima Volcano.
Onshore experiences will juxtapose the bustling urban life of Tokyo’s Ginza district with the serenity of Kyoto’s temples and gardens, and the vibrant markets of Shimizu, alongside the significant historical landscape of Hiroshima. Onboard, guests will be immersed in Japanese culture, with culinary offerings such as regional dishes, sushi, Japanese whiskey, sake, and shochu, as well as entertainment including traditional rakugo storytelling, karaoke, and folk dance performances.
Customers who make reservations by August 27, 2025, can also benefit from Captain’s Circle savings of up to $200 per stateroom.
