Miraculous Rescue: 18-Year-Old Found Alive After Overboard Incident from AIDAnova

An 18-year-old passenger was successfully rescued after going overboard from the AIDAnova while sailing through the Baltic Sea toward Copenhagen on July 16th. At around 2 AM, crew members raised the “man overboard” alarm, prompting the ship, which was carrying approximately 6,600 passengers and crew, to reduce speed despite challenging conditions of wind force six.

The captain instructed passengers in balcony cabins to use their mobile phone flashlights to help illuminate the water, while crew boats conducted a search sweep with their spotlights. Thanks to the quick actions of both the crew and attentive guests, the overboard individual was located and retrieved from the water in a responsive condition, subsequently receiving medical treatment back onboard.

A complete headcount was conducted, ensuring all passengers were accounted for by 4 AM, after which the voyage resumed as planned.

AIDA Cruises confirmed the event, although they did not provide additional comments. Danish authorities indicated that the passenger had been under the influence of alcohol and had previously expressed a desire to enter the water before the incident occurred.
