Star Princess: Princess Cruises’ Newest Sphere-Class Vessel Successfully Completes Sea Trials

The Star Princess, the second Sphere-Class vessel from Princess Cruises, has successfully completed its sea trials and is set to welcome its first guests on October 4, 2025. Currently being constructed at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the ship conducted its trials in the Adriatic Sea from August 9 to 12, where it was tested for steering, navigation systems, and propulsion capabilities.

This new ship is notable for being the second in Princess’s fleet to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), a step toward more environmentally friendly operation. It utilizes two Azipod propulsion units which allow for 360-degree thrust, along with four controllable-pitch bow thrusters for enhanced maneuverability.

Captain Gennaro Arma, who has been with Princess Cruises for 27 years and leads the Sphere-Class project, oversaw the trials. He expressed satisfaction with the ship’s handling and the performance of the navigation systems. Following the trials, the crew of approximately 1,600 members is focused on the final touches before the inaugural sailing from Barcelona.

The Star Princess has a gross tonnage of 177,800 and can accommodate 4,300 passengers. It’s designed to offer a variety of amenities, including 30 dining and bar options, entertainment venues, and a range of accommodations from luxurious suites to balcony staterooms, with over 1,500 rooms featuring private sea views.

Significant public spaces aboard the ship will include The Dome, a versatile venue for relaxation and performances; The Arena, the most advanced theater in the fleet; The Piazza, known for its stunning architecture and ocean views; and Spellbound by Magic Castle®, a unique lounge experience developed in collaboration with a renowned Hollywood institution.

Post-launch, the Star Princess will kick off an exciting inaugural season with itineraries covering the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, and Alaska.
