Royal Caribbean Searches for New Godmother for Star OTS Following Diana Ross Withdrawal
Diana Ross has officially withdrawn from her role as godmother for Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, the Star of the Seas. The 81-year-old singer was set to participate in the inaugural cruise later this month but has faced unforeseen circumstances that prevent her from attending. Representatives for Ross confirmed her absence, and Royal Caribbean expressed their regret while announcing that a new godmother will be selected soon.
Ross had been appointed to the ceremonial role in June, expressing a deep connection to the ocean and stating this opportunity was significant for her family. The Star of the Seas is scheduled to set sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, on August 20th, for a three-day cruise to Perfect Day at CocoCay, the line’s private island in the Bahamas.
Despite her withdrawal, Ross remains busy with her career. She is embarking on the U.S. leg of her Beautiful Love tour, starting Saturday in Saratoga, California, with performances planned through November 8th. In July, she completed the U.K. portion of her tour.
Reflecting on her godmother appointment, Ross mentioned that the sea is a place of peace and adventure for her. She emphasized the importance of family and her commitment to maintaining her health and active lifestyle, including regular swimming and indulgences like Häagen-Dazs ice cream.
Earlier this year, during a concert in Brooklyn, Ross assured fans that she has no intention of retiring from performing.
