Victoria Cruise Lines to Launch First Electric-Hybrid Ship on the Yangtze River

Victoria Cruise Lines, based in China, is set to launch its latest vessel, the Victoria Isabella, on the Yangtze River on September 28th. This new ship is a sister to the already operational Victoria Sabrina, currently the largest river cruise ship in the world.

Weighing in at 17,000 gross tons, the Victoria Isabella is designed to accommodate up to 570 passengers. It will be the first passenger ship on the Yangtze River to include an escalator, enhancing passenger accessibility. The accommodations on board are impressive, with 236 Superior Staterooms measuring around 26 m², all featuring private balconies. Additionally, the sixth deck will host 22 Executive Suites, which are larger at about 36 m², and include both showers and bathtubs in the bathrooms, as well as a Luxury Amenities package. For those seeking even more luxury, the two Shangri-La Suites on deck three provide 51 m² of living space and similar amenities as the Executive Suites.

Since its inception in 1994, the American-managed cruise company has specialized in catering to guests from the United States, Europe, and Australia. Currently, the fleet includes other vessels such as Victoria Jenna, Victoria Anna, and Victoria Katarina.

Benson Wu, the company’s president, commented on the recovery of the market, noting that despite the current number of American tourists visiting China remaining below pre-pandemic levels, there are signs of a rebound. He highlighted a new policy that allows Americans to travel to China for up to ten days without a visa, which has encouraged more promotional efforts in collaboration with travel industry partners in the US.
