Latvian Navy Airlifts AIDAdiva Passenger: A Remarkable Rescue Operation

On September 2, 2025, the AIDAdiva cruise ship, carrying around 2000 passengers and operated by AIDA Cruises, reported a medical emergency while in the Baltic Sea. Due to the severity of the incident, the ship’s crew sought immediate assistance from the Latvian Navy Coast Guard.

A rapid response was initiated, and the patrol boat P-09 Rēzekne was sent to the cruise ship. Once on the scene, medical personnel evaluated the injured passenger and determined that evacuation was necessary to ensure prompt medical care that the ship could not provide.

The injured individual, accompanied by the ship’s medical staff, was transferred to the patrol boat. The vessel then proceeded directly to Liepaja, where an ambulance awaited to transport the patient for further treatment.

The Latvian Navy released a statement lauding the successful operation, emphasizing the collaboration between the maritime and medical teams, which effectively showcased the importance of coordinated emergency response in maritime settings.

Prior to this event, AIDAdiva had commenced a seven-day Baltic cruise from Rostock, Germany, on August 30, making stops at various ports including Riga, Tallinn, Helsinki, and Stockholm.
