On September 5, 2025, the MV Gemini, while maneuvering at Port Piraeus near Athens, Greece, accidentally collided with the pier during docking. This incident caused significant damage to the vessel’s hull above the waterline. Following the collision, port authorities and the ship’s technical team are set to carry out a comprehensive inspection to assess the extent of the damage and the repairs needed before the ship can recommence its scheduled operations.
This unfortunate event adds to a string of mechanical issues faced by the MV Gemini, which was launched in 1992. Earlier in March 2025, the ship experienced an engine-room fire shortly after departing from Piraeus. The fire, which produced visible smoke from the upper decks, prompted a safety muster among all passengers. Fortunately, the fire was contained, and the ship returned to port with limited propulsion.
