Emergency Medvac: Crew Member Rescued from MSC Magnifica Near Sicily Coast
A crew member aboard the MSC Magnifica was medically evacuated on the evening of September 10, 2025, as the ship navigated off the coast of San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily. The medical team on board assessed the situation as a probable heart attack.
At around 7:00 PM local time, the Port Authority of Trapani was alerted, and an emergency request for assistance was made. Coordination of the response involved MRSC Palermo, the Italian Coast Guard, CIRM (Centro Internazionale Radio Medico), and personnel from the 118 emergency medical service.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the Coast Guard managed to deploy the patrol boat SAR CP 330, which maneuvered into calmer waters to reach the MSC Magnifica. By approximately 9:15 PM, the crew member was successfully transferred from the cruise ship to the patrol boat and taken ashore at the Port of Trapani. An ambulance was ready at the port to provide further medical care.
Details pertaining to the crew member’s identity, nationality, or their specific role onboard remain undisclosed. As of now, no further updates on the individual’s condition have been provided after their arrival on shore.
