SunStone Unveils Douglas Mawson: The Grand Finale of the INFINITY Ship Series

SunStone Maritime Group A/S has successfully completed its inaugural series of Infinity-class ships with the delivery of the Douglas Mawson, the seventh and final vessel in this series. The ship was delivered on September 9, 2025, at China Merchants Heavy Industry in Haimen, China.

The Douglas Mawson will be the third of the Infinity-class ships chartered to Aurora Expeditions, joining the ranks of the Greg Mortimer and Sylvia Earle. Named after the notable Australian geologist and explorer Sir Douglas Mawson, this vessel enhances SunStone’s presence in the expedition cruising market.

Designed with a collaboration of international expertise, the ship features a specialized X-Bow hull developed by Norwegian naval architects at Ulstein. The vessel’s interiors were created by Mäkinen from Finland and stylishly designed by Tomas Tillberg Design USA. This design not only ensures high comfort and safety standards but also promotes fuel efficiency.

Measuring 104.4 meters in length and 18.4 meters in width, the Douglas Mawson can accommodate up to 170 passengers and has a crew of 102. It is certified for Ice Class 1A and Polar Class 6, allowing it to operate in both polar and temperate waters. Advanced features include Safe Return to Port, virtual anchoring, zero-speed stabilizers, and comfortable amenities aimed at guest enjoyment.

Onboard, passengers will find a well-equipped environment featuring a swimming pool, various dining options, lounges, a boutique, gym, spa, and sauna.

With the delivery of this ship, SunStone wraps up its first Infinity-class rollout and transfers the Douglas Mawson to Aurora Expeditions for long-term charter deployment.
