Stena Line Signs Long-Term Contract at Port Gdynia, Poland: A New Chapter in Maritime Logistics

The Port of Gdynia Authority in Poland has finalized its tender process for operators at the Public Ferry Terminal, initiating in June 2025. Stena Line has secured a long-term contract to operate at this terminal, ensuring the continuation of the crucial Gdynia–Karlskrona ferry service from 2026 to 2032. This service has been designated as a Motorway of the Sea within the EU’s transport network.

Both Stena Line and the Port of Gdynia have expressed their commitment to development, investment stability, and environmentally friendly shipping in the Baltic region. The upcoming contract is expected to introduce significant operational improvements, including 24/7 freight handling, automated drop-and-collect systems, and hybrid electrification of vessels. These advancements aim to enhance the Gdynia–Karlskrona route as a key maritime corridor, aligning with EU climate objectives and boosting competitiveness in the Baltic market.

Stena Line has operated the Gdynia–Karlskrona route for three decades, accommodating over 12 million passengers and 2.5 million freight units during that time. The service currently utilizes three vessels, two of which are state-of-the-art 240-meter E-Flexer ferries. Stena Line relocated its operations to the Public Ferry Terminal in June 2022, marking a new chapter in its longstanding commitment to delivering dependable passenger and freight services.
