Technical Glitch Postpones Norwegian Escape’s Bermuda Cruise Departure

Norwegian Cruise Line has announced a delay for the Norwegian Escape’s scheduled departure due to a technical issue affecting the ship’s propulsion. The 2015-built vessel, which was set to sail from New York City on a five-night cruise to Bermuda—including an overnight stop in King’s Wharf—will now have its departure postponed.

A letter sent to guests with only 24 hours’ notice indicated that the ship is experiencing problems that impact its speed, causing the Norwegian Escape to arrive at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal at 2 PM instead of the expected early morning. Guests shared images on social media showing the ship arriving under the guidance of multiple tugboats.

The company reassured its guests that safety remains unaffected, but the delay has changed embarkation procedures. Check-in has been rescheduled to occur between 4 PM and 8 PM, with early arrivals advised to postpone their trips to the terminal. Guests with pre-cruise hotel bookings through Norwegian will have their transfers updated automatically.

For passengers disembarking on the same day, Norwegian is reportedly offering reimbursements of up to $300 per person for any non-refundable airline change or cancellation fees.

This season, the Norwegian Escape has shifted from Miami to New York City, where it will offer various short cruises to Bermuda, along with longer sailings to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. Following this deployment, the ship will reposition to New Orleans for the winter season, set to cruise the Western Caribbean.
