Inaugural Calls of Valiant Lady and MSC World America at Dominicana’s Taino Bay: A New Era in Caribbean Cruising
The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) has announced the inaugural arrivals of two significant cruise ships to the Dominican Republic. Virgin Voyages’ ship, Valiant Lady, and MSC’s World America are set to debut at the ports of Puerto Plata. Valiant Lady will dock at Taíno Bay on September 28th, followed by MSC World America on September 29th.
APORDOM’s director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that these arrivals demonstrate the growing confidence of international cruise operators in the country’s maritime infrastructure and its attractiveness as a destination.
Looking ahead to October, APORDOM anticipates a total of 28 cruise ship arrivals, which includes 14 at Taíno Bay, 12 at Amber Cove, and 2 at Cabo Rojo/Pedernales. The arrival schedules are subject to modifications influenced by weather conditions and operational routing choices.
The Valiant Lady is an impressive vessel at 277 meters long, featuring 1,404 cabins that can accommodate 2,762 passengers and a crew of 1,150, with a service speed of 20 knots. On the other hand, the MSC World America measures 294 meters and can carry up to 2,092 passengers, supported by its crew, and reaches speeds of 22 knots.
