MSC Announces Homeporting of World Europa in Dubai for Winter 2026-2027
MSC Cruises has announced a strategic shift for the winter season 2026-2027, opting to homeport its flagship ship, the MSC World Europa, in Dubai instead of deploying two vessels. This decision stems from insights gained after testing a two-ship deployment earlier, which showed inefficiencies as the ships competed against each other rather than expanding the customer base.
At a recent Connections Cruise Arabia event, MSC’s Executive Director, Angelo Capurro, explained that following the pandemic, the company recognized the need for a single larger ship that would provide better economies of scale and enhanced passenger experiences. The MSC World Europa, capable of accommodating over 6,700 passengers, is set to return to Dubai, a destination that has proven effective due to its robust air connectivity and cruise infrastructure.
This approach contrasts with Celestyal Cruises, which will operate a dual-ship setup in the region, including homeporting in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha for the upcoming season to meet rising demand.
Looking forward, MSC is exploring ways to extend its presence in the Arabian Gulf and has plans to resume Red Sea itineraries once safe passage through the Suez Canal is confirmed.
