Global Ports Holding (GPH) Leads Coastal Cleanup Efforts Across Its Network
Global Ports Holding (GPH), the world’s largest cruise port operator, recently celebrated International Coastal Cleanup Day with a significant initiative titled "From Every Port, For Every Coast." This campaign brought together port employees, local communities, cruise line partners, and various stakeholders to tackle the growing problem of marine litter and work towards preserving coastal ecosystems.
Over 250 volunteers dedicated more than 20 hours to the cleanup effort, successfully removing over a ton of waste from shorelines, beaches, and surrounding coastal areas. The participants also gathered data on the debris collected, contributing to global research on marine pollution and enhancing the project’s scientific value.
GPH Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Xuereb, highlighted the strategic position of ports, which sit at the intersection of land and sea, in leading sustainability initiatives. He emphasized that the campaign united colleagues and local communities in meaningful action to protect coastlines vital to maritime activities.
