TUI’s Mein Schiff 7 Hosts Large-Scale Emergency Exercise in Warnemünde

An extensive emergency preparedness drill took place aboard TUI Cruises’ vessel, Mein Schiff 7, while the ship was docked in Warnemünde, Germany. This large-scale exercise, organized by Havariekommando in collaboration with TUI, simulated a critical fire event on the ship that resulted in multiple injuries among passengers.

Fire brigades from Rostock, Lübeck, and Hamburg took part in the drill alongside maritime rescue teams. Helicopters were dispatched to transport response teams directly to the ship. Additionally, several support vessels, including the tugboat Fairplay 35, the firefighting ship Albert Wegener, and the rescue cruiser Arkona, assisted in the operations from the water.

Volunteers portrayed injured passengers, allowing the crew to practice search, rescue, evacuation, and medical triage procedures in a realistic environment. Havariekommando director Dr. Robby Renner emphasized the necessity of conducting life-like drills to ensure readiness for emergency situations. TUI reiterated the importance of these joint exercises to ensure both onboard crew members and external emergency services are well-prepared for potential incidents at sea or in port.
