Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas Rescues 12 People Adrift at Sea

On the evening of September 28th, Royal Caribbean’s Enchantment of the Seas, traveling from Tampa, Florida, to Costa Maya, Mexico, altered its course to evade Hurricane Humberto and Tropical Storm Imelda. While navigating the Caribbean Sea, the ship’s crew spotted a makeshift raft with around twelve people adrift near the coast of Mexico.

Passengers on board reported seeing the raft struggling and beginning to disintegrate, with the individuals onboard using lights to signal for help as darkness fell.

Quickly responding, the crew launched a rescue boat to reach the stranded individuals. Upon arrival, they brought them aboard the cruise ship, where they were provided with food, water, and other essential support.

Although the cruise line has yet to provide comprehensive details on the rescued individuals’ identities or their conditions, an official confirmed that standard safety protocols were followed, including coordination with local authorities for their handover upon arrival at port.
