Rijeka Set to Become a Top Cruise Destination with Increased Ship Arrivals in 2026

Rijeka, a port city on Croatia’s northern Adriatic coast, is becoming increasingly popular as a cruise destination, with a significant rise in ship arrivals expected in 2026. Once primarily known as an industrial port, Rijeka has transformed into a desirable location for both luxury and mass-market cruise liners.

This year, the city welcomed nearly twenty cruise ships to its port, a slight decrease from last year’s thirty. However, the future looks promising, with plans for approximately 40 cruise ships to visit Rijeka in 2026, bringing an estimated 40,000 to 50,000 passengers.

A noteworthy vessel visiting for the first time will be the Costa Deliziosa, which is set to dock in November carrying up to 3,500 passengers and crew. The recent arrival of the ultra-luxurious cruise ship Seven Seas Grandeur highlighted Rijeka’s appeal, offering an unforgettable experience to its guests.

According to Antonija Kardum from the City of Rijeka Tourist Board, the city has evolved into a compelling nautical destination, gaining visibility on the global cruise tourism map. This growth reflects Rijeka’s shift from being merely a stopover to becoming an essential port in the cruise industry, further enhancing Croatia’s reputation in international tourism.
