French Riviera Sets New Regulations for Cruise Ships: What You Need to Know
New regulations for cruise ship operations in the French Riviera have been announced by the Prefect of Alpes-Maritimes and the Maritime Prefect of the Mediterranean. These rules will affect ports in Nice, Cannes, and Villefranche, located in the Bay of Cannes.
Starting soon, each port call will be limited to an average of 2,000 disembarked passengers, with a maximum cap of 3,000 per call. Cruise ships that carry more than 1,300 passengers will only be allowed one visit per port each day. Furthermore, during peak months of July and August, these larger ships will be limited to a maximum of 15 visits across all affected ports.
Cruise lines that commit to the “Sustainable Cruise in the Mediterranean” charter will receive priority for port access. In addition to these measures, additional restrictions may be put in place if pollution levels reach a peak.
These regulations are set to take effect after a 21-day electronic public consultation period.
