Montreal Set to Host 2027 Winter Cruises as Port Partnership is Renewed
Tourisme Montréal and the Port of Montréal have entered into a new three-year partnership to promote the city’s growth as a cruise destination. This agreement was announced during the inaugural Montréal Cruise Forum on October 22, 2025, marking a significant step for the city.
Starting in February 2027, Montréal will host its first-ever winter cruises. Ponant will include the city in its winter itineraries, operating as a turnaround port for two 15-day cruises scheduled for February 13 and February 27.
Julie Gascon, president and CEO of the Montréal Port Authority, emphasized that this agreement demonstrates their commitment to making Montréal a leading cruise destination with a sustainable and competitive offering.
The forum also highlighted findings from a survey commissioned by the St. Lawrence Cruise Association, which revealed that cruise-related spending in Montréal reached $52.3 million in the 2024 season. Direct passenger spending totaled $38.3 million, with an average daily expenditure of $632 per passenger—the highest among St. Lawrence cruise destinations.
In related developments, the Montréal Port Authority has launched preparatory work for its significant expansion project at Contrecœur, with on-water work awarded to the consortium CTCGP, which includes Pomerleau and Aecon. A permit has also been secured from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada for a compensation plan involving the copper redhorse feeding grass beds.
