AmaMelodia: The Latest Addition to Colombia’s Ama Ship Fleet
AmaWaterways has expanded its fleet in Colombia by introducing the AmaMelodia, which joined the already successful AmaMagdalena. The launch took place on October 26, 2025, and it has been met with excitement, reflecting the favorable response to the first ship.
Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways, stated that this launch represents a significant collaboration with Colombian partners, enhancing not only the travel experience for tourists but also promoting sustainable tourism that supports local communities along the Magdalena River.
The AmaMelodia can accommodate 64 guests and is designed to embody Colombian culture, showcasing local artistry in its decor and cuisine. Kristin Karst, co-founder and chief brand ambassador of AmaWaterways, emphasized the collaborative effort involved in creating the ship, highlighting the pride and passion of Colombian artisans and communities.
Guests aboard the AmaMelodia can choose between two itineraries: the Magic of Colombia and the Wonders of Colombia, both of which delve into the rich history, cuisine, music, and biodiversity of the Magdalena River Valley. Unique excursions will also be available, such as visits to jazz concerts in Mompox and cultural outings in Palenque.
ProColumbia played a key role in facilitating this venture by coordinating efforts between national and regional stakeholders in the tourism sector. Carmen Carbellero, president of ProColumbia, affirmed the importance of AmaWaterways’ commitment to cultural exchange and sustainable tourism, asserting that the AmaMelodia will strengthen connections between travelers and local traditions.
With the addition of AmaMelodia to the fleet alongside AmaMagdalena, AmaWaterways is set to provide even more opportunities for guests to explore the heart and soul of Colombia and its enchanting Magdalena River.
