Norwegian Gem Sets Sail on Its Inaugural Cruise From Jacksonville
Norwegian Cruise Line has proudly launched its inaugural voyage from Jacksonville, Florida, with the Norwegian Gem setting sail for the first time from this new homeport. This partnership is anticipated to enhance vacation experiences for travelers, offering easy access to both short trips to the Bahamas and extended Caribbean adventures.
Harry Sommer, the CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., emphasized the company’s commitment to providing exceptional vacation experiences from convenient departure locations. He highlighted the new offerings available from Jacksonville, including visits to the private island, Great Stirrup Cay, and mentioned the world-class service and entertainment associated with a Norwegian cruise.
City officials, including Mayor Donna Deegan and City Council Vice President Nick Howland, welcomed the Norwegian Gem, expressing excitement about the expanded cruise service at JAXPORT. They noted this development as a significant boost for the local economy and the tourism industry.
The Norwegian Gem, accommodating 2,344 guests, will operate from Jacksonville for the 2025-26 season under a three-year agreement. The presence of JAXPORT makes it convenient for travelers to access a range of cruise options from the heart of the Southeast, being within a one-day drive of over 98 million consumers. Additionally, the terminal offers on-site parking and is well-connected to Jacksonville International Airport and major highways.
Visit Jacksonville’s President & CEO, Michael Corrigan, expressed gratitude towards Norwegian Cruise Line and JAXPORT for their collaboration, hoping this would introduce Jacksonville to new visitors and significantly impact the local tourism scene.
