Norwegian Gem Sets Sail: NCL’s New Homeport in Jacksonville Launches Cruises

On October 31, 2025, Norwegian Cruise Line’s ship, the Norwegian Gem, embarked on its first cruise from Jacksonville, Florida. This inaugural voyage marks the beginning of a multi-year partnership with the City of Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), which will see NCL offering seasonal cruise services from the port until April 2028.

The Norwegian Gem is set to operate itineraries to the Bahamas and the Caribbean from November through April. This initiative reflects NCL’s commitment to providing quality travel experiences from accessible locations. Passengers can enjoy both short getaways, including stops at the company’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay, and longer voyages throughout the Caribbean.

Officials from the city hailed NCL’s arrival as a substantial development for Jacksonville’s tourism sector and maritime economy, enhancing the city’s standing as a premier port and travel destination in the southeastern United States.

Throughout the 2025–2026 season, the Norwegian Gem will be homeported in Jacksonville, accommodating up to 2,344 guests and featuring amenities such as the Mandara Spa & Salon and a variety of dining options. Evening entertainment includes performances like “Blazing Boots” and “Ignite the Night,” along with twelve restaurants offering international cuisine and fourteen bars and lounges.

According to JAXPORT representatives, Jacksonville’s geographic location attracts travelers from across the southeastern U.S., further bolstered by the cruise terminal’s proximity to major highways and the international airport.

NCL’s new service is expected to attract fresh visitors to Jacksonville, promising economic and cultural benefits for the area. The itineraries will feature short voyages to the Bahamas with stops at Great Stirrup Cay, Grand Bahama Island, and Key West, alongside longer 11- and 12-day Caribbean cruises that include stops in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Antigua, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Excursions will range from beach visits and snorkeling to adventure activities like ziplining.

The cruise line’s all-inclusive offerings highlight its brand, featuring amenities such as premium open-bar service, specialty dining credits, high-speed Wi-Fi, and excursion allowances. Current promotions include free airfare for a second guest and complimentary fares for children on selected voyages.

Fare for the 4-day Bahamas cruises starts at $279 per person, while longer Caribbean trips begin at $749 per person. Additionally, NCL is offering limited-time discounts of up to $1,000 across its fleet, positioning Jacksonville as a key gateway for travelers seeking tropical cruises with one of the cruise industry’s leading lines.
