Norwegian Gem Sets Sail: NCL’s New Homeport in Jacksonville
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) celebrated a milestone on October 31, 2025, with the Norwegian Gem embarking on its inaugural voyage from Jacksonville, Florida. This launch marked the beginning of a multi-year partnership between NCL, the City of Jacksonville, and the Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT), which will offer seasonal cruise services from the port through April 2028.
The Norwegian Gem will operate from Jacksonville between November and April, with itineraries taking travelers to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. This initiative highlights NCL’s commitment to providing premium vacation experiences from convenient departure points. The new service will include quick escapes to destinations like Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private island that is currently undergoing enhancements, as well as longer trips throughout the Caribbean.
City officials in Jacksonville are optimistic about the arrival of NCL and its potential to boost local tourism and the maritime economy. They view this partnership as a pivotal step in elevating Jacksonville’s status as a prominent southeastern port and travel destination.
During the 2025–2026 cruise season, the Norwegian Gem will serve as the homeport in Jacksonville, accommodating up to 2,344 guests. The ship features amenities including the Mandara Spa & Salon, a variety of restaurants offering international cuisine, and evening entertainment such as the production "Blazing Boots" and the dance show "Ignite the Night," developed at NCL’s creative studios in Tampa.
JAXPORT representatives highlighted the strategic location of Jacksonville, which provides easy access for travelers from across the southeastern United States. The cruise terminal is conveniently positioned near major highways and the international airport, facilitating on-site parking and traveler access.
NCL’s itineraries from Jacksonville will feature short trips to the Bahamas, stopping at Great Stirrup Cay, Grand Bahama Island, and Key West, as well as longer Caribbean voyages that will take travelers to locations including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Antigua, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Onshore experiences range from relaxing on beaches and snorkeling to adventure activities like ziplining.
With an emphasis on all-inclusive offerings, NCL provides premium open-bar service, specialty dining credits, high-speed Wi-Fi, and shore excursion allowances. They also have limited-time promotions, including free airfare for second guests and complimentary fares for children on select voyages.
Prices for the 4-day Bahamas sailings from Jacksonville start at $279 per person, while longer Caribbean voyages begin at $749 per person. NCL is currently offering discounts of up to $1,000, marking Jacksonville as a promising gateway for travelers seeking tropical cruise experiences with one of the industry’s leading cruise lines.
