Port Everglades Welcomes New Ships Following a Record-Breaking Year
Broward County’s Port Everglades is set to welcome three new cruise ships while also achieving a record for passenger traffic in 2025. A preliminary count indicates that over 4.7 million passengers visited the port during the fiscal year that started on October 1, 2024.
Significant upgrades to the port’s infrastructure have been announced, including an expanded convention center and a new elevated roadway designed to alleviate traffic. Among the new vessels arriving in Fort Lauderdale are the Celebrity Xcel, Disney Destiny, and Star Princess.
The Star Princess will kick off its inaugural season at Port Everglades on November 7, 2025, offering cruises to the Caribbean and the Bahamas. The ship will join its sister vessel, the Sun Princess, which began operations earlier this year.
Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Destiny, the newest ship from the line, will start sailing from Fort Lauderdale on November 20, 2025. This LNG-powered ship will run four- and five-night cruises departing from the reimagined Cruise Terminal 4.
Celebrity Cruises plans to name its latest ship, the Celebrity Xcel, at Port Everglades on November 16, 2025. This 3,250-guest vessel is part of Celebrity’s Edge-class and marks the fifth addition of this class to be named in Fort Lauderdale.
Additionally, Port Everglades will soon be home to the Legend of the Seas, which will set sail from the port starting in November 2026. This Icon-class vessel is expected to be the largest ship to operate from Fort Lauderdale, offering seven-night cruises to the Caribbean and Bahamas.
A new overpass, the Convention Center Connector, enhances connectivity, allowing direct access from U.S. 1, State Road 84, and SE 17th Street to the Convention Center and the upcoming Omni Fort Lauderdale Hotel without passing through security checkpoints. This infrastructure aims to reduce congestion and improve overall access to crucial areas within the port.
Broward County Mayor Beam Furr emphasized the importance of these improvements, not only as a celebration of current successes but also as a foundation for future growth.
