Galveston Welcomes MSC Seascape with the Opening of Terminal 16

MSC Seascape made its debut at the new Terminal 16 in Galveston, Texas, on November 8, marking the ship’s new homeport ahead of its inaugural cruises. These voyages will feature weekly 7-night itineraries to the Western Caribbean, stopping at Costa Maya and Cozumel in Mexico, as well as Isla de Roatán in Honduras. This initiative by MSC Cruises signifies a robust commitment to expanding its presence in the U.S. market.

The new terminal, created through a partnership with the Port of Galveston and constructed for approximately $156 million, covers around 165,000 square feet and includes two custom-built boarding bridges and a seven-story parking garage. This facility is designed to accommodate larger cruise ships and enhance the operational capacity of the homeport.

During the arrival event, Rodger Rees, the Galveston Wharves Port Director and CEO, highlighted the importance of this development in the port’s evolution. Lynn Torrent, President of MSC Cruises North America, noted that the deployment in Galveston aligns with the company’s strategy of merging European style with American comfort while enhancing its reach in North America.

With MSC Seascape stationed in Galveston, the homeport can now welcome one of the line’s most advanced vessels, equipped with high-tech amenities and themed dining options that cater to the Texan market. This move is anticipated to significantly boost the local economy, increase cruise passenger traffic, and solidify Galveston’s role as a major U.S. cruise hub.
