Borealis Resumes Service: Fred Olsen’s Ship Back After Drydock Refurbishment
The MS Borealis, operated by Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, has officially resumed revenue operations after completing a two-week drydocking at Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam, which started on October 21, 2025. This refurbishment included substantial interior and exterior upgrades aimed at enhancing guest experiences.
Among the improvements, public spaces like The Observatory and The View were refreshed, while the Atlantis Spa received new salon equipment and updated jacuzzi facilities. In addition, some guest corridors had their water piping systems replaced.
Entertainment areas saw major enhancements as well. The Neptune Lounge was upgraded with new stage technology and acoustics in preparation for a collaboration with RWS Global, which will include new performances with aerial silks. The specialty restaurant, Colours & Tastes, underwent interior updates and plans to introduce a rotating themed menu starting in 2026.
A new venue called Fresco was added on Deck 8, featuring an open-air lounge with panoramic views, a foot-spa experience, and a stage for intimate live performances. Mediterranean light bites will be available from February 2026.
Operational upgrades included the installation of RFID cabin doors, a new phone system, energy-efficient kitchen equipment, and modernized laundry facilities. Beneath the waterline, the ship underwent hull cleaning and inspection, with new fuel-efficient propellers installed to improve sustainability. The refit was completed successfully with the efforts of over 920 workers, ensuring that Borealis is now better equipped to deliver superior guest experiences while enhancing its technical and environmental performance.
