MSC Cruises Expands Fleet with Two New WORLD Class Ships Ordered from Chantiers de l’Atlantique
On November 12th, MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique announced the order of two additional ships in the World Class series, which are slated for delivery in 2030 and 2031. This announcement was made during a milestone event at the Saint-Nazaire shipyard, which included the float-out of the MSC World Asia and the keel-laying ceremony for the MSC World Atlantic.
The investment for these two new vessels is approximately EUR 3.5 billion, raising MSC’s total investment with Chantiers de l’Atlantique in 2025 to around EUR 7 billion. Over time, including other WORLD class ships, MSC’s total investment in France has reached approximately EUR 10.5 billion.
Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC’s Cruise Division, noted that the World Class ships represent the company’s commitment to creating new standards in cruising, particularly in terms of energy efficiency. They are designed to be LNG-ready, which allows for future uses of alternative fuels.
Laurent Castaing, General Manager at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, highlighted the significance of MSC’s four ship orders in 2025, expressing appreciation for the trust placed in the shipyard.
Construction for the two new ships is expected to begin in 2029, following the delivery of previous World Class vessels, including MSC World Europa (2022), MSC World America (2025), World Asia (2026), and World Atlantic (2027).
